I found this on my husband's hard drive and this is the title he gave it! lol I think his uncle took it.

Sorry about the quality, but the composition and subject really stood out.

Can anyone give me hints on how to improve an old image like this? I did sharpen it one notch, crop it and remove a couple of distractions. (PhotoFiltre7)

Also, could someone describe what "retro" means...I think it means an imitation of something from an earlier time? I'm trying to think of a photo I could take. Thanks!

I suggested Retro as the contest topic - restored old photos certainly fit the topic. An Internet search on the topic of ld photo restoration will bring results that should be of help to you.

Very neat old image, and the title he gave it is very clever. Connie, I'm having a hard time with this one as well, vintage and Retro can be a rather close nitch I think. As for improving this one I think it's better to leave it as it is, what you did do works fine, but it is an old image, and that is very evident here, kudos.

According to dictionary.com:

retro
[re-troh]
Spell Syllables
Examples Word Origin
See more synonyms on Thesaurus.com
adjective, Informal.
1.
retroactive:
retro pay.
2.
of or designating the style of an earlier time:
retro clothes.

However, in today's parlance, it could also mean an already old thing that's cool, or an old style that's coming back. It seems lots of 50s and 60s designs are making a comeback these days. Just one guy's thoughts.

Connie, this is a good entry both for the current contest (topic: retro) and the Wednesday B&W challenge. Don't say sorry about the quality, as it's inherent to the time when this one was taken.
If you decide that it's your entry: Good Luck with it, my friend!

The image is too small (only 14 cm width) and thee is lots of noise in it too. I tried to improve it in Photoshop Elements but was not satisfied with the result. This will make a good entry I believe.

Actually this is a great capture, feels realistic and even though the quality is not perfect, I like the image it portrays, brings you back in time.

Go ahead and enter this Connie...it's quality lends itself to its' authenticity and makes a fine entry...and it seems there are various interpretations of what 'retro' really is anyways.

The only thing I can think of is to play around with the brightness/contrast levels to adjust the lighting in the image.

Nice rework of the old image, Connie. Silly question: where do the stairs lead to? Best of luck in the contest.

Congratulations on your placement Connie !
I really like this one and wonder if when it was taken the kittens were the main subject. I supect at the time the cars were just there but now add such interest.
