A wolf spider spoted on some logs in the middle of the night near Lake Houghton in northern Michigan. The big guy was about 4in or 10cm across! This is a non-poisonous spider but I still would not want to get bit by those huge fangs! They are extremely fast as well, so I felt quite lucky to get a nice close up of this one.

Excellent photo ... 4 inches you say ... Whew! ... dat's a biggy. The only way I'd try this shot is with a telescopic lens ... something in the order of the Hubble class.

Lucky indeed. I remember seeing one of these when I was younger and it scared me so badly I had nightmares about it. Such a nice detailed photo you have here, Looks very good but forgive me if I do NOT use as a desktop LOL. Excellent photography on your part.

Excellent capture. I glad it was you and not me. He may not be poisonous, but he could still make me hurt myself!!! Well done!

Shoot and run, eh Greg? The spotlight on him sets your photo off very nicely and the composition makes this a very balanced image. I'll be off now before he gets me! :) - Patty

If I see'em coming they're pretty facinating. If I casually turn around and it's in my face, somebody's going to get run over on my way out. That log gives it the perfect setting, and a great place to wait for unsuspecting hands. Very well shot.

I used to have arachnophobia (when I was 10) but I got over it and now I make sure to save every pic I see of them! Confront your fears! hehe, okay, so they're not real spiders, but still, it works..

Great close up here. I really like the focus you got on his eyes (thought I can't see how many he has hehe) and hair.

Well done!

I do NOT want to appear a know it all here....but these wolf spiders rarely bite...{ I don't think they even would bite a person}...? and they JUMP>>>>>>HIGH! and aim right for you! They also can curl up in teeny crumpled size balls....despite their mass....:)
I love your photo! Great work!

I don't mean to scare anyone but they get bigger! This looks like a young adult female and females are much larger than males! She has more growing to do! Excellent shot by the way!
