This, being the 50th anniversary of this barn fire, I thought it appropriate to unearth. 1956. I was driving the 50 miles home from work, and happened across this blaze before the fire department arrived. As usual, I had a camera with me and fired off a few shots before the barn collapsed.

This is an awesome picture Doug.......When I look at this picture I can't help but think about what it must have been like during the Civil War. You read of countless stories of soldiers destroying peoples homes and livelihood by setting everything ablaze.
Thanks for sharing this.

Wow Doug, very dramatic. The B&W takes us back to the time you actually took the photo. Nice work...thanks for bringing it out of storage.

Striking and dramatic. The grainy quality just adds to the effect of age. Well composed and shot.

Doug, this is a great shot. It reminds me of something I might find leafing through the Magnum agency books. It's survived the years and being digitised fantastically. Thanks for posting it.

Wonderful shot, the fire is so active I can almost hear the roar. I love the equipment in the foreground (don't recognize that wicked, spiked implement) it gives the idea that the barn was ancient as well. Lucky that the prairie didn't blaze because of it
