The Dom, 1 Uploaded: 05/21/12 1:27 AM GMT

Image: The Dom, 1

Cologne Cathedral detail. This is the first in a series I will post from a recent trip down the Rhine. I finally got to Europe after 63 years. This cathedral is truly magnificent and affectionately called "the Dom" by Cologne's residents (I'm told). The building is constantly under repair, as demonstrated by the scaffolding on the right. It is difficult to take a picture without getting at least SOME construction work in the frame.

Because of that, i have just posted 2 others (Germany 61 and 62) I have tried to get different angles and views indeed. The castle lays at the bottom of a mountain, wich has a cable car. Insted of also getting down with it, i took the 3 hour walk down wich gave such views. The nicest view looking down from the mountain is my posting Germany 037. Thanks again for your comment.

Hi Randy thanks for the comment.
The image you talking about is taken in mountain town called Rocca di Cave.
The Castle was an ancient fortress part of the Prince Colonna family military organisation against Saracens during Middle Age. Today is a museum and an Observatory.
I do not use to add comments on my picture. I prefer to respond directly if one is interested in the place or the history of that particular location.
Thanks indeed.
