I've got a large group of hostas from the previous owner, not my choice or favorite plant either. But, I've got to say that like this they look delicate and elegant, I love the different stages presented too.
While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see. ~Dorothea Lange
Great shot and I like the B&W here, the colors (the blacks and whites) look really good and neither the black or white over power each other. And, nice framing!
I love it, you have strong tonal contrast and good separation between the flowers and the background, and then it just looks good. I too thought they were birds of some kind and I was amused when I found my error.
I too like this image very much. As with Regmar, I like the shallow depth of field.
However, because the tonal qualities of the in focus flowers and the out of focus ones are the same they compete with each other and give them equal visual value. The next time you shoot these or another plant with the same issue, try using a reflector as a shade and make the out of focus flowers a darker shade of grey.
Still all in all a very strong image that rates a good high score.
Thank you for sharing it with us!!
A Photograph is more than a still image of the real, it is a doorway into the unreal, it allows you to see through the eyes of the photographer, and see how they see the life around them.
