The next instalment in my mission to show you my version of London. It's hard to do these without just coming up with a cliche....I'll let you be the judge of whether or not this succeeds. I've been wanting to take this shot all week - I noticed the way the low autumn sun lit up the Houses of Parliament on my way into work last Monday and finally got the chance on Sunday.

WOW, Nigel, this is good! They are going to have to recall all the English school books that have pictures of Westminster in them so that they can replace those archaic books with new ones with this picture in them! You even have a little British bird swimming by in the lower left. The colors and composition are outstanding.

It's always nice when you can plan a shot out in your mind ahead of time, then wait for the lighting you want. It's a wonderful shot, very well composed and not at all trite in my opinion. (I know, I'm just a Yank, what do I know?)

Strolling to work at 9.45am? You Southerners have it easy. We Northerners have been at 't mill for 3 hours by then! lol. Very good shot Nigel taken from an unusual angle. You are right, the light is very gentle and the sky is just right.

I too thought it a bit late to be going to work, and let's face it, you're not there yet. You're taking this photo. If you get in hot water for being late, show them this marvelous photo. You're probably get a raise. Excellent photo and sun shining on clock tower shows just how important time is. Take advantage of every precious second you have. You did just that in this photo. Very good Nigel.

Excellent view point you found to get the size of the buildings down the side of the river, i have always been on the wrong side of the river to shoot from that angle i think, and the gold on big ben shows up great. you even got a nice sky into the bargain, for me the lighting is perfect, so glad you have got over your thing about not shooting london sites, how can something this nice be a cliche?

WOW....look at all your friends boggling their eyes out at this perfect shot. The building..everything is just right. It reminds me of a very high end postcard, the kind you don't see any more..It's already in my architectural fave file..any more hanging around? ..I love your definition of a cliche!

Fine work, congrats to you, my friend.

Nice shot Nigel. I have been to London as a tourist but I don't remember it as lovely as you have captured it. The light was perfect, not sunny and not the typical English weather. Will be there in March maybe and will try my luck.

Tremendous work Nigel. The golden aurora bestowed by the low sun picks out not only the full length of the House (my, those MPs must have been warm!) but also gives Big Ben's clock tower a special glint. The iron grey and shadows of the bridge complete the scene impeccably.

Nigel, the obvious criticism here is that it wasn't ME who took this picture! ;-) This has to be one of my favourite shots of yours. On my last trip to London I took about 20 shots that were almost identical to this, but never got to post them as I wasn't too pleased with them. What sets your apart from mine is the way you've captured the light shining on the underside of the bridge, and the slight glow on Big Ben. With the thin cloud and the reflections on the water this shot really is book cover/postcard material. A masterpiece my friend!

Paul :)
