These two bears are oblivious to all around them as they square off against each other. I was hiking back from a lake high in the Cascades when I heard them. Sometimes in the forest it's hard to tell where sounds are coming from, so as I was headed in what I thought was the opposite direction, I actually was headed straight towards them. Being in the woods, there is nothing as frightening as the sound of a bear that you can't see. I got one shot then got the he.. out of there. (Don't try this on your own kiddies).

Great shot Mike, it's a wonder they didn't smell you coming...most animals scent the smell of humans. Well you have more nerves than me on this one. High marks and thanks for posting this.

But words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling, like dew, upon a thought produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions think and smile. Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind.

One time about 1970 my family went to Kings Canyon Natl. Park in California. Shortly after parking in this one spot I was out and about when a baby bear cub came sliding down a tree. Scared the bejeezus out of me I went running down to "warn" everybody to run for the hills. He stayed around camp all night eating out of garbage cans, we were like best of buds.

This shot is worth downloading just for the name alone but the smell of fear brings back memories for us 'bar hunters'

I love this. I would have been running away at full speed lol. They do seem to be sharing a joke with each other, the main one seems to be laughing out loud. I am glad you were safe though. Putting this right in my faves.

I wish it would tell us what equipment you used to capture this.

Either way, phenomenal shot. Good color and contrast, depth just a touch different than I personally like, but taking your life into consideration I'm much happier that you're alive.
