Thank you very much everyone. Here's a little backstory on the picture.
The sky is by Vue 6 Esprit, water by plug-in 'Flood'. One of the longest renders I've ever sat through - 159 hrs (the image was also rendered in 16 bit, which is something new & probably greatly added to the render time). Obviously my G4 was out of its depth and I'll probably look seriously at the (rumored) 8 core Power Macs equipped for multithreading coming out in 2007. The sky was created with a new atmosphere editor in Vue 6 called 'Spectral Light'. Since my previous images were done fairly rapidly with Vue 5, I had no idea what a long slog this would turn out to be. If I'd also done the water in Vue 6, it would've probably taken another week. The water editor in Vue 6 has also been upgraded to include translucency and scattering functions that are also going to be a strain on my 5 year old Mac. Ray tracing programs like Vue, Terragen, Lightwave 3D, Mojoworld, 3ds Max, Maya, etc. are becoming very advanced in their realism and I'm moderately pleased with the results here, even if I did cheat a bit with the quick & dirty 'Flood'.
wow. It didn't look much from the thumbnail, I actually thought it was a photograph. But full-view... this is amazing. The sky especially... i wish I saw skies like that every day above my head... amazing.
