I wish I could read the cartoon, for it tells more than I can surmise here...I think! The theme of competition seems apparent:wedding couple,soccer player,desire to conquer the world (Nazism),need to populate quickly, a reference to the Space Program (Saturn-however, may be reference to Saturnalia.a ceremony of debauchery?)) I see a doomsday clock approaching midnight , a perhaps drunk Pinocchio,an unknown to me Hebrew letter of alphabet, a laughing monkey-or is it a teddy bear??- and musical notes which cannot decipher.....and is that a camel on top of the female in langerie?? and is the man with the red hair aghast at this sight?;this is so rich in material and the best I can do is decide it is about chaos/social events , the need to control them and a sense of impending doom at recognition of failure to be able to accomplish this goal............WOW!!! Though hastily, and seemingly, randomly constructed constructed-a goal often sought by artists-most notably the Dadists/Surrealists and the Impressionists-this is a skillful "portrait" of that mental state referred to within the title..............Now.this MAY BE a lot of hooey from me too! Care to divulge, Simon????

Nice one SW Pinocio has a long nose a little like yours maybe !! Basil Brush says "Boom boom" know what I mean ? If there were fingernails scrapping across the collage I would say excellent.
