This is for Twinkel because there is a Dutch connection and Twinkel loves tall ships. This is the replica ship Duyfken arriving in Newcastle last Friday. She is a replica of the first ship that is known to have reached Australia in 1606, the Dutch ship Duyfken. The name apparently means Little Dove. She was built in Fremantle as an archaeological experiment using the same materials and techniques that the Dutch would have used 400 years ago. Right now she is circumnavigating Australia to celebrate the anniversary of the original ships arrival.

Very nice shot mate. A wonderful looking ship. Crisp and clear and an ever so straight horizon line, you deserve an A+ just for that. Nicely done.

Great shot, glad we do not have to travel like this anymore.
It took 3 months to come there, at least 10 % died along the way, and so on.
Indeed, Australia was discovered by the Dutch, and had our countrys name back then,
Terra Nova Hollandia (New Land Holland) Later it became Australia when the Brits took over. Anyway, great picture, thanks for the posting.

I found myself staring at this a long time. I noted the wood from which the ship is made. The color of it has been captured so accurately it even looks old. i would be curious about the living quarters in the raised end of this ship. That's a curious construction. It doesn't look level but it has to be. the sharpness and clarity of this composition is superb.
Nice. It's a keeper.

A wonderful presentation Robert. This ship is beautifully made and shows many interesting details. Lovely clarity and composition to this image. The ship is well captured in motion. The ocean has a lovely choppiness to it. Super blues to the sky and sea. You've done a most worthy job and thanks for the history about the Duyfken :^>

Damn this is sweet Robert! I was perusing your gallery because I know that I have been soooo behind, there is no way I can catch up :(, so I am choosing my favorite artist's and looking to see what I miss! There is so much detail in this image that my eyes didn't want to leave the boat! There is detailing in the wood, the sails, the people on board, the hull, the flags and all the ropes just to name a few of the items that I stared at...The way the front of the boat is raised out of the water gives the viewer an illusion that the boat isn't level (Well, I guess technically it isn't), but for photographic purposes, it is :)...I am storing this beauty into my favorites folder under 'favorite artist' as well so I can stare at it some more. I wish I knew more nautical terms so I could sound intelligent, but I love the little "hood ornament" on the front of the boat that appears to be leading the way!!
You have done good on this Robert. You keep my eyes lusting for more. Way to go!! Thanks for the eye candy ;=)

The Duyfken! I've been on this ship, it 'lives' up here where I am. Gorgeous ship. It's so small, though. Imagining what life was like on that is beyond me ^__^.

A beautiful shot of this ship.
