Mythmaker's Journal (3 entries)

Golden Chengdu. Uploaded: 02/19/12 7:15 AM GMT

Image: Golden Chengdu.

No, I didn't manipulate the colours of this shot. :) Yes it is a touch soft, due to it being taken in Chengdu's ubiquitous winter mist. I lightened the shadows with the curves tool just a touch (So there is more detail there if you want to look.) but didn't want to destroy the strong contrasts between dark and light in the shot. This was directly across the road from my hotel, the Traffic Inn, which is smack in the central area of the city. All the same you can see there was a quality of stillness available from time to time. Pretty amazing for a city of over ten million. I loved it.

Enjoy.

Mikel.

Hi Mikel, thanks for your comments and yes the horizon is normally level and I am probably one of the people that really hates it when it isn't. However, when there are big hills and the landscape is as this one you will see that the horizon is not visible. The lines to look for are the houses and buildings which have straight vertical lines. It is quite desceptive I can see. thanks for taking the time to comment. Patti

(not posting of course) I don't think it's any fault of my Sony though. I just haven't learned how to properly set the ISO's and F stop, aperture, or whatever you're supposed to do. I hope they will show more interest than now, otherwise I'll have to keep posting my own protrait, which I don't think is a very good idea!

Wow man.. you nailed it for sure.
I really appreciate your thoughts on "Beware of Dog". You're right about my respect for it, and the thought of the whole picture not to be trivial. Some group of hard working American's, probably straight off the boat back then. Built that place and set each brick by hand.. I think it was a factory at one point.. It's not far from the Downtown area. It's alot bigger than the shot and has a crap load of character.
I'm glad you put together such an eleborate feedback. Rather than something like; "Nice shot".
Take care my friend.

Thanks Mike for taking the time to comment on my Osprey picture “King”. He was trying to keep his balance in a very stiff wind.

'ello! Thankyou for your excellent critique of "By The Sea Side ..." - I'm glad you like it. I understand what you say about the out of focus seaweed and will see what I can do with it.

Ideas, unlike solid structures, do not perish. They remain immortal, immaterial and everywhere, like all Divine things. Ideas are a golden, savage landscape that we wander unaware, without a map. Be careful: in the last analysis, reality may be exactly what we think it is. - Alan Moore
