Alaska was a wonderful break away from the hot, high-pressure dome that seemed to attach itself to north-central Texas. This was a heat wave that brings back memories of 1954 and 1980 Texas summer. I'm a mite older, now, and I got a king-sized case of cabin fever.
Got to see some things I haven't seen since I was a child... and I appreciate them a little more, now.
Many thanks for your comments on Checking the Roof. The mountains are about 1100 feet below. That green "moss" is really pine and spruce trees. This was shot with a 35mm wide-angle lens. and a polarizer to minimize glare.
The best part of the check-out flight was trout fishing on a lake at 6000 feet surrounded by 300 ft sheer cliffs.
You and the yucca can share the view but let me warn you she might be a little prickery glad you enjoyed the photo Tom. it's paradise at it's best Sorry no creds today..for some reason after I used 3 it said I had no more. I thought they replenished them every day. I hope you are not too heartbroken over it..smile
Glad you dropped by for a visit at my Coco Plum Cabana Tom!! Hope you had a fun time, the door is always open you are Welcome back anytime! I took this picture because I liked the color combination of the blue chairs and coco plum

Thanks Tom for your comments on "Wedding Party". Glad you enjoyed the photo. Luckily someone else in the family did all the genealogy work on this side of the family line. I'm sure they could tell me who these people were. Have a great day. ~Wendell
Hi Tom, glad you took the "Steep Climb" and didn't get carsick! the road runs right beneath many great mountains including the highest in the state (14,433 foot Mount Elbert), and rises well above the treeline into the stark Alpine tundra zone, while also passing lakes, rivers, steep-sided valleys, thick forests of fir and extensive aspen groves. Highway 82 is usually open for only six months of the year, from late May to late October, I appreciate your wonderful comment very much!
I think the place may have gone overboard with Flowers Galore! it seems a bit gaudy and I cut a slice off the flag..some true blue patriot might find that insulting. I don't know if I like the picture or not oh well it just can sit there until I figure it out...thanks for smelling the flowers Tom! With all the sweetness in the air I hope you can smell your steak grillin!
Sapphire Point describes the color of the lake water perfectly and is the same spot as "Chipmunk Dance" from last year The chipmunks are still there but the hilltop covered in tall firs had all been cut down due to a beetle infestation. It is a chilly Alpine lake and too cold for swimming but great for sailing. I don't think they even allow motorboats only non motorized craft..thank you for your kind words Tom!

Thanks Tom for commenting on one of my favorite landscapes of the American "Wild West". . Towering monoliths exist within a vast plateau-and-canyon panorama. You can experience sheer-walled, red rock canyons along the twists and turns of Rim Rock Drive, where you may spy bighorn sheep and soaring eagles. Most tourists go to the well known Parks but this little out of the way jewel you can explore without any crowds. Diane
Thanks Tom for looking at the logs and a history about them
Petrified trees today lie strewn across clay hills and within cliff faces; each log broken into large segments. The quartz within the petrified wood is hard and brittle, fracturing easily when subjected to stressPetrified wood found in the park and the surrounding region is made up of almost solid quartz. Each piece is like a giant crystal, often sparkling in the sunlight as if covered by glitter. The rainbow of colors is produced by impurities in the quartz, such as iron, carbon, and manganese. Over 200 million years ago, the logs washed into an ancient river system and were buried quick enough and deep enough by massive amounts of sediment and debris also carried in the water, that oxygen was cut off and decay slowed to a process that would now take centuries
Peace in the Valley What I like to do is look online at log cabin designs just for fun. Some of them are so beautiful! I would like one about 1500 sq ft on one level with a mountain or lake view nestled among the evergreens but not too many since I would like the cabin to be bright and cheerful in the day time. I don't like dark and deary homes. You are welcome to drop by anytime Tom!
I sold the canoe shortly afterwards. It was heavy lifting onto the car roof all the time and figure I can just rent one for a couple of hours if I want to explore a waterway. Thanks for viewing the Rocky River Tom! Diane
Tom - Thank you for the fave on 'Fog on the Lake Early Morning'. This was a photo that I almost tossed, as there was reflection and glare from the train windows. But, with some work, I was able to eliminate much of it and reduce the rest to get the photo to a point that represented the view I witnessed while traveling by. Glad you enjoyed it. Thad
Hello Tom....Thankyou so much for your very kind comments on (A WINTER'S RUN)they are very much appreciated...These two horses are big friends with each other, they are always together..One of the horses is called Artic Queen and I have picture of her in my gallery......Thankyou Again...All the very best to you Tom............Mick.
Tom - Thanks so much for faving 'Homeport Calling'. We had the most amazing whale watch tour that day, after walking through the temperate rainforest and seeing the Mendenhall Glacier, that it could never be topped. Thad
Thanks very much Tom for commenting on Beach at Ikaria. I am quite impressed with some of your photos, have only started viewing them. Greece is a beautiful country, the islands, the seas, the mountains, the ancient ruins, all waiting for an excellent photographer. Hope you can visit some day. Thanks again for taking the time to view and comment on the photo.
Thanks Tom for commenting on my picture "Two Tone Dragon" Sneaking up on these skittish little guys using a 100mm macro wasn't working for me. My camera setup for insects, frogs, and other pond stuff is the use of long focal length lenses, typically 400-600mm.

Thanks for your comment about the lighting on my upload The Eastgate, Warwick. Technically it's a cheating image Tom, the skyline was bright while the masonry was too dark. I underexposed the shot and tweaked the upper and lower lighting levels in Fastone Image Browser and managed a better balance.

Thanks Tom for faving "OL Bridge". I appreciate it. I really would like to learn more features in Photoshop. My Photoshop software is pretty outdated but it still does lots of good stuff.
Hi Tom, thanks for your comment on Fitness ... yes, you may be right, a different perspective could be the reason for this pose, ha ha. I do admire your work and appreciate your commenting.
