Thanks for your nice comment on "Hoppy Break", it is much appreciated,
I'm shooting Nikon D50 + Tokina 100 macro, it gets me to 1:1 macro which means that, on closest focus, a 23.5x15.8mm frame fills the frame,
In this particular picture, I cropped 20% of the frame on the left to have the frame starting with the hopper's legs,
I don't know much about close-up filters, but they should get you quite close,
As for the clarity, I used a high shutter (1/200) accompanied by a bounced flash, which freezes the subject, (~8 8~)

Hey again Ian...thanks for having a look at both "Trafalgar Falls (Rework)" and "Sulfur Stream"...they were both altered using a little bit of Orton's Imagery. That could be why the rock is hurting your eyes...maybe a bit overexposed. I should have said that you needed sunglasses to view the image!! And it smells basically how you would think it does...like rotten eggs!!!
