i kind of think i was wrong about the flood water going over it. all i know is that the flood joined the kilauea stream and then maybe made its own path to the ocean. i'm glad you like the photo. they are developing lots up where i was standing so i don't know if i can try for a better one this summer. jen.

hi mimi, i was with someone else the day i took this one. i was out there before the sun came up. i guess i must have balanced the camera on the bridge because i'm too lazy to carry a tripod. i took so many shots that morning. it was so pretty that t;here's no way i wouldn't have walked away with some good stuff. the thing about me is that i treat each photo like it's one of my children........and never weed any of them out. BAD IDEA. i'm sure glad you liked it. thanks for letting me know. jen

this was taken in the late aftenoon on the day before river at dawn. that's what helps with the colors. the layers are so appealing to my eye. thanks again. jen

Thank you Mimi for your comments on "Painted Hills Magic". It really is an amazing place. I'm pleased you like my rendition.
The different colors come from different layers of ash from when different volcanoes in the Cascade Mts. deposited their ash as they erupted. Actually the soil is clay like and is very sticky when wet. If you were to walk up the hills, your footprints would be able to be seen for up to 25 years. That's why the hills are fenced off and you have to get a permit to enter.

Thanks Mimi for the nice comments on my Bee Blossom image. I love making these close-up shots but it's often hard getting these little guy to hold still long enough to lock in the focus. I'm doing ok with this new knee. Squatting and climbing stairs are still a problem though.
