Hi Stephen, thanks so much for the kind comments on Rocks and Water - Winter 2008. I know you like that kind of shot and I'm glad you got it in the VB. ;)
Several of my photos are available for purchase in larger format at Shutterpoint, and some are also available in high quality framed prints at http://djholmes.imagekind.com/
Hey! Thanks for the comment on "Resting Dragonfly".
"You hardly ever see them with their wings flapped down like this (especially when resting). The focus, clarity and detail on the dragonfly are fantastic. Some parts are a bit bright and overexposed, but I don't think it detracts much from the shot."
He must have been resting because every other dragonfly would land and fly off instantly but this little guy just sat there for literally three minutes while I toyed with the exposure. And my camera kept wanting to focus on the leaf and made the dragonfly blurry. So I used the manual focus which is pretty hard on my camera since you press the left and right button, but this ended up being the clearest shot I've ever gotten out of manual focus.
I noticed that it was a teeny bit overexposed in some areas, but when I made the picture big, it seemed to fit. I even darkened it a little in Photoshop to see what it would look like and it didn't seem as good... like something was missing... the brightness fills that in.
In response to your comment on Planet Tree -- Part 2...
I left the power lines in because it adds to the picture, in my opinion anyways. Our world is becoming more and more dependent on electricity, and it's almost as if it's ruining our planet in some ways... so to me, the power lines symbolize that.
Or I could be a crazy loon more focused on themes than what makes a good picture...
Hello Stephen....Many thanks for taking the time to have a look at (SCOTTISH GLEN)and for your lovely comments,as usual they are very much appreciated.....Their is nothing better than roaming the Scottish mountains and glens with a camera in hand....Thanks again....All the best...Mick.
Thanks Stephen for viewing my two recent uploads "Damn Ice" and "Icey Dagger". I'm glad you liked the water and ice. I got a bunch more and have one I turned into a B&W. I hope it came out well. Thanks again.

Thank you Stephen for your comments on Lunch Time. I'm glad you liked the picture. Was a lucky thing that I saw the butterfly in my backyard before I left.
Hey there - I'm not sure where exactly we're staying... we're gonna road trip through the black hills from MN, then out through Sheridan and Cody, WY. We're gonna try to stay flexible and camp wherever we can in the park... I'd love to hit the Tetons also, but I don't think we'll be able to fit it into a 7 day trip. Any suggestions of where to stay?
Hey Bean ;) Yes we are on our way. I had a look at your webite yesterday. I thought i had done quite well with my shots but yours are amazing. I am very jealous. The days that we were there were overcast and cloudy and there seemed to be a whole lot of steam everywhere which someone obscured the pretty colours. Its a shame but at least i get to see what its like from your shots. :)

Hi Bean, thanks for commenting on The Great Salt Lake. Salt Lake City was our first destination of many on our two week road trip and we were so lucky to see some of the amazing things we saw. Yellowstone was in fact our last stop. I will take you on my US journey!

Hi, thanks for your comment on The Lone Isle. I actually did put some contrast into it but when i did i lost the haziness of the image and decided i didnt like it nearly as much. Staighten the horizon you say? I have Paintshop Pro and Photoshop. How would i go about doing that?

Hi Stephen, yes Morocco is a bit of a culture shock, but such a wonderful experience. Moroccan people are such lovely people and I have never seen so many people caring about each other - walking around with arms around each other and greeting enthusiastically. :) I have little time too for commenting but am looking at friends photos. :)

Hi Stephen, thankyou for commenting on Hoodoos. I thought they were so interesting to look at. Bryce Canyon was amazing. I know you are planning to visit every national park in america. We did 5 while we were there for two weeks, more pics to come on that but Bryce and Yellowstone were certainly my favorites.

Hi Bean, thanks for commenting on Norris Geyser Basin. I confess i have been plugging your shots in my descriptions as i have found it really interesting to see the contrast. The mood and feel of the place was so dramatically different when i was there. In your shots it is like a sleeping beauty but mine much more represent a dark and brooding world!

Hi Stephen, lol it almost seems like i am starting to take over this bottom half of the page now! Thankyou for all your amazing and supportive comments for the Yellostone work. I wasnt able to get to Artists point either. Apparently it was still pretty snowy. Did you see the osprey nest on the ledge whilst you were in this area. We stopped by some people who were half hanging off the cliff and they pointed us out an osprey sitting in her nest about half way down. We didnt have a big enough lense to get a picture though.

Hi Bean, thanks for commenting on Old Faithful's Hidden Colours. We were lucky enough to be staying in one of the cute budget cabins behind Old Faithful and were wandering back to it after dinner when we saw this scene. We saw Old Faithful erupt mid morning but it was very overcast and you can barely see the spray in the photographs. Glad i caught this when i did.

Hi Stephen, thanks for commenting on Anonymous. I had exactly the same thought to do with the signs. About half way through the trip i realised that this would have been the sensible thing! Ah well....

Hi Stephen, thanks for commenting on Castle Geyser. Castle was superb to watch and with both castle and grand we were just in the right place at the right time....give or take 50 mins or so! Because i know my trip to Yellowstone was a once in a lifetime thing i think it made us sit tight to wait for the eruptions as we both knew we would very likely never be returning, much as it saddens me.

Hi Stephen, thanks for commenting on In The Grotto and also Grand. We were really lucky to have such good weather when it went off. By the time it had finished it had clouded over dramatically! I dont remember this one having much sound to it at all actually. There was the customary amount of hissing and plently of splats as the water hit the ground....though now i think about it we were a lot closer to it than Old Faithful so yeah i think it was a lot louder in a quiet sort of way. I always expected them to make a noise but they hardly do at all. its very strange :)

Hi Stephen, thanks for commenting on Proof of Wolves, ive had to change the title now!!!!!! We were told by the park rangers it was wolves, i had no idea it was a bear....yikes!!! I was worried about walking down that path anyway and we did shoot a bear paw print which i was planning to post soon.

Hi Stephen, thanks for commenting on Fountain Geyser! Bad weather seems to follow me around like a plague. It was blowing a gale and raining horizontally on my wedding day, worst storms for Tunisia in 25 years while we were on honeymoon, flooding on our holiday in wales last year....plus i live in England! I have no hope :'(

Hey man thanks for your comments. Your work is incredible, and I really enjoyed the Teton and Yellowstone aspect of your work; you managed to capture these two locations in all of their glory. Best shots i've seen of this region - local Jackson photographers would be envious :P. Anyhow, incredible work!!
Hi Stephen, thankyou for commenting on Americas Beauty. I cant imagine how anyone could ever want to leave the states when it is such a big place with so many natural wonders to see. It truely captured my heart.

Thanks for you words on "A Different Buttes Point". I still today remember standing on that deck and looking at the drop to the river below and the sheer vastness of this glorious place! Lol I needed a 2mm (:P) lens to take it all in, but I settled for 18. Thanks again man!

Thanks for your comment on 'Monsal Head'. I love going out with other photographers and seeing what everyone comes up with - you're right they are always slightly different takes. Thanks for looking at them all!

Hi Stephen, thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my two country lane posts! I'm glad you liked them, and I'm happy that the panorama is on your desktop :-)
Hey, Stephen. Thanks for the comment on On the Eastern Coast. I've been following your falls series, although I haven't been able to comment on many of them.
I guess we both share a love of the water!
As to taking that pic in the sunset or sunrise, well, I'd probably have to be on vacation and rent a hotel room like I used to do..maybe someday!

Glad you like Falling Foss,I was going to climb down to the base however it was pretty steep and slippery and the wife said she still needed my salary coming in,So i gave it a miss..Richie.
Waterstones Took it handheld Stephen because i was on a narrow bridge ..Starting to find some faster shutter speeds and larger apertures so i don't need the tripod as much..Good job too as a farmer came whistling past on his tractor and gave me a good soaking..cheers Richie.
Thank you very much Stephen for an excellent critique on A Certain Sameness....You eye for black and white is tremendous. I purposely toned downed the contrast to see if I would get a comment about it. Thank you so much for you honesty and your help in making it a better image.
Hey Stephen.
Thanks so much for the awesome comment on my Artist Spotlight! Its been really cool being able to chat to someone like you who enjoys the same photography as me, and can relate to a lot of stuff.
Hey Stephen, thanks for adding me as a friend. Love your gallery. Just curious where at in PA are you from? I grew up in PA and visit there off and on.

Hello Stephen...Thankyou ever so much for adding (CHURCH IN THE WILDWOOD)to your favourites it is as you know very much appreciated...The beauty of this churchyard is all down to people who volunteer their services to keep it tidy....Thankyou again....All the best to you Stephen................Mick.
Might present an opportunity for the proverbial 'win-win' situ. Direct some traffic your way, and but of course ... 'we' get to enjoy the benefit of having your work on site to view.
/\ Just a thought, or two. Simply put.
That said, you were always a class act on all fronts. Your work will be missed, but more so, you ... will be missed. So, don't be a stranger. :o)

Hey Stephen, Sorry to see you leave! I enjoyed your photos so much. But I did save your website to see what new photos you will post. Good luck in the future.
Just visited your website...looks very very good :o)
A pitty that we have to do it without your pictures here in the future, cause I always enjoyed them very much, didn't always give a comment (not always enough time for it) but I certainly took a look.
Have a Very Happy Birthday my friend tomorrow Dec. 21 . Hope you get lots of gifts and enjoy with your family and great friends with lots of laughter & fun.
